I have a 98 Saturn SL.

When I turn my wipers on they will not shut off until I turn the ignition off.
Even when I just hit the wiper once it keeps going until I shut the car off.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this ?
I tried disconnecting the battery for several hours, in hopes that it would reset something, but to no avail.

Please help.

The wiper controls are function of the stalk on the steering column and the wiper motor. Something of this order would be a wiring connector problem or a problem with the stalk it self which is the switch for these functions, or some kind of a ground problem. It obviously is not going to be easy to solve.
so the first question is
how rusty is the car
another is
has some one been into the wiring installing aftermarket stuff.
the third question I can think of is
how good are you are trouble shooting an electrical problem
and i guess a forth question is, have you purchased a saturn service manual at your local auto parts store in order to get the wiring diagram?

 

Unfortunately, Saturns have those "fancy" wiper motors which require a "park" signal. (tells the motor to stop when the wipers are at a certain position) Your wiper motor is probably not getting that signal. I'm not absolutely certain, but I'm pretty sure you're gonna have to change the whole wiper motor assembly to get rid of the problem .... unless the park signal goes through the switch and then it could be in the wiring.
