It will turn over but won't catch for maybe 5 or 10 seconds. If you let off the key and hit the starter again it picks right up and fires up. I had the codes read and got po 341 cmp circuit out of range and po507 idle control system rpm too high. It doesn't do it every time so it makes it hard to fix but if maybe someone else has had the same problem.....? It isn't easy like plugs or filte, that has all been done. Thanks in advance. </TD></TR>

HI

97 Cars had a problem that causes exstended cranking after sitting for a few hours. It can be fixed and a decent tech can check to make sure this is the problem fairly easly. What happens is there is a check valve in the fuel pump that holds pressure in the fuel line when you shut the car off. That way when you go to start there is fuel right at the injectors. when this check valve wont hold and all the fuel drains back into the gas tank it takes 8 or 10 seconds to pump fuel back up to the injectors. If a pressure gauge is hook up to the schrader valve in the fuel system it should hold 30 psi forever if it wont hold pressure thats your problem. Bad news is you haveto replace the whole fuel pump. If you can live with itit wont get worse and the car should always start. Note the idle control problem is probably an intake or pcv leak spray some brake cleen (which is volitile) around the intake area and see if the idle changes if it does thats the spot where the leak is. good luck and keep me posted.
