I have a 1995 SL1, the idle is high after driving a short or long distance, @ 1.5K to 3k, then slowly goes down to @ 1.2K. When this happens the linkage is in the closed position. Does anyone know what could be causing the high idle? Thanks in advanced

Do you think it is the IAC valve? I was thinking of taking it out and cleaning it, or should I get carb cleaner and spray the inside of the throttle body?

While your taking apart the throttle body to clean the IACV (clean only with electrical contact cleaner) have you checked for the original engine coolant temperature sensor, prone to cracking and usually leaving a high idle rich mixture all the time? I believe yours has two, one for dash panel (single wire) and the important one, the engine two-wire sensor that should be replaced along with the two-wire connector if its corroded from anti-freeze. Replace the sensor with the permanent brass one, the connectorfrom a pc connector, junk yard air intake temperature connector or dealer's $30 part. You might be surprised when the warmed up idle returns to a normal 800-900rpm.

Thanks I'll check into that.

The temp sensor took care of the problem. My idle goes down to 900 - 700 RPM's now. Thanks again!
