Well, doggies! I got the valve body replaced and everything put back together about an hour ago. Went for a test drive and that sum beech shifts quite nicely now. It still kind of "slides" into top gear, but there are no harsh shifts or any banging now. No SES light either. I'll take the old valve body apart this weekend just to see how it works. I'm weird like that. Anyway, valve body ordeal is over and only lost a little bit of blood from a skinned forearm.

Jacking up the car and running in reverse for 20-30 mins didn't fix the reverse slam that's caused by the valve body in a Saturn S series transmission? I can hardly believe that, cause it should fix everything and tighten all nuts and bolts.

Glad you got it done Rube, congrats.

I didn't jack it up, sw, I just backed it up to an elm tree in my yard and left it in reverse for 30 minutes. It actually did help for a day or two. Then all the symptoms were back, thus leading to the valve body replacement. If I had to do one for someone else that has one with ABS, I'd charge them $300 plus parts. What a pain in the **** that was! I did leave some skin, hair and blood under the hood. You never really own a car until you leave a pound of flesh and a pint of blood on it! LOL

Well man you did it wrong. The story used to go put it on jack stands, cinder blocks, or hang it from a tree. I think hanging from a tree is the best way to do it.

I'm going to try the tree hanging thing this weekend, I think. Got a huge beech tree in the back yard that I have used for pulling an engine or two over the years. I think it'll support this light car. I don't want to get my new 5 ton jack stands dirty! LMAO
