Default Funky VIN cutoff question

I have a VIN that ends in 5S201336. 95 SC2

1995 Saturn SC2 Coupe L4 1.9L Resonator Assembly Vin # WZ216474 & Before

That W seems to mean sometime in 98.
So why the hell would you advertise a part like this for 95 only?

Another vendor didn't label their part as being before or after this cutoff. It is now banging off the floor of my car because the people installing it didn't bother to call and tell me it didn't fit right. So I seek redemption for my exhaust system as well as my brain.

By definition isn't everyone in 95 before the cutoff?

What am I missing here?

Thank you

Hey folks, thank you for all the input.
As it turns out, the part noted above with the VIN cut off above is apparently correct factually. What happened is that the original manufacturer, Walker exhaust, originally labeled the part to be for 1993 to 1995 DOHC Saturns.

Later it seems they came along and modified it slightly, extending its use in years that follow up until the time they implemented the pre cat on the exhaust manifolds for the '98 vehicles. That is what the VIN number cut off is about. Apparently this part can be used from 93 to part of the way through 98, hence the W in the year digit of the VIN. For the DOHC s cars.

However, Walker never updated the title across the top of the page so it still reads 93 to 95 but now has a VIN cut off statement tacked on the end.

With the fitment, listed by whoever is selling it, being 93 to 98.

Nice find, derf. Where did you get the information that answered your own question? Did you get in touch with Walker?

Actually I figured it out when I finally found someone advertising it for sale that actually stated the years it fits. I'm not sure what I have in the car now but I think it was for a 97 SC2 by accident. iow according to this, I should be able to use The same one, but back in the day I had to have a spare of each and they were not the same part. On top of that, the diagram from Walker does not show the 5-in piece of pipe between the end of the downpipe and the input of the cat. However, you used to be able to buy flange to flange from exhaust manifold to cat input, and that part had the extra tubing in it so it always fit perfectly. I used to always buy that one even though I didn't need a new cat because it was just easier to install. I now realize from spending some time under my car on my scissors lift that I can get the exhaust pieces in and out. Besides internal engine work, I now truly don't have to let anyone else touch my ****ing car. Every time someone does, it comes out ****ed up. The exhaust going down the vehicle is almost pinned to one side of the heat shield and rattles like ****. I haven't quite figured out exactly where the issue lies but everything goes crooked right where that pipe was added. Plus the piece that is welded onto the pipe in front of the cat which is then attached with the plastic hangers to the piece welded to the frame, it's no longer welded to anything. I could get just enough correction to get the resonator off the heat shield if I could adjust those hangers but since the bottom is not attached to anything it just acts like a clamp. I purchased another downpipe because I'm not sure what the hell is in there right now but it could be the curvature at the end of the downpipe where it goes off center. It could also be the resonator and intermediate pipe that just got installed that they said they had to heat up and **** with to get it to fit the way it is. Seems like if I pull on it sideways I can center it enough, it being the entire exhaust system, but I have no way of keeping it there and I'm assuming that I'm putting stress on the end of the flex pipe since that is the weakest part of the system laterally. I've got it half disassembled but I have not removed the resonator and pipe. So I really don't know whether the front is throwing it off or the back is throwing it off but disconnecting the cat from the resonator should tell me right away.

And of course the resonator and intermediate pipe is not from Walker.

Ahhh, thanks for the explanation. And since I have relatively NO comprehensive abilities anymore, I'd have to see what you're talking about in order to offer any ideas. BUT, I would say that from the way it sounds, that the front is most likely going to have to stay the way it is and any adjustments would have to be made on the back side.
