drivetrain noise of unknown origin?
'01 SC2 was having Left front end noises, speed related/steering angle related, exact symptoms of impending outer CV joint disaster. Surprise... pulled it down & CV (a "rebuilt axle" P.O. had installed) looks & turns OK, with no eveidence of 'clunking' at any angle of rotation.
This is puzzling; I've done a lot of CV joint servicing, boot changes & R&R on a variety of vehicles, but I'm stymied here. Wheel bearing/hub assembly shows no excessive play either.
Any ideas?

Jack the car so that the front wheels are off the ground making sure the emergency brake is ingaged. Start the car and place the transmission in gear with the engine idling. Check with a automotive stethescope to locate the location of the noise being careful of all moving parts.
