I had my car jumped the other day, drove to where I was headed. When I went to start the car again, it was dead, no overhead light nor any lights on dash, was jumped again, the headlights worked, turn signals, but no dash lightsgot home, turned off car and immediately tried to restart it, no such luck, no turnover at all..dead. the battery does have the green light on. Could it be the alternator? Any assistance apprecaited.

It could be the alternator, the battery, a bad connection at the battery cables, a bad wire at the alternastor , and least likely a bad fuse box. Get a voltage reading at the battery. That'l tell you if the battery has a good charge, around 12 volts. If you can, buy a battery charger/car starter that works from house current. I think about $65. The battery charger will charge up a good battery in 5 or 6 hours, a bad battery will not accept a charge. If you live near a commercial area then you may find auto stores that will help you (in hopes of selling you something, i suppose).
Of course first check that the cables at the battery are tight.
A voltage reader will tell you if the alternator is charging the battery once the car is running, should be around 13.5 or 14 volts. If not then a problem with the alternator.

A car STARTS off of the battery and RUNS off of the alternator. So I'd say to check the BATTERY and the posts that connect to it.Edited by: sw2cam
