I pulled the valve cover on my 2003 Ion 2.2 engine and found two exhaust camshaft caps broke and two rocker laying next to the valves. Has anyone run into this before? What components should I look at replacing? Should i look at removing the head and having it checked?

 

Never heard of anything like that on the ION 2.2

Pull the head and rebuild

 

Darn!! No idea what happened, but RjION is right - pull the head and perform a complete rebuild on it.

Curious though -- is this an OEM engine, or has someone been into it before?

 

OEM engine with 110k miles on it.
