Aftermarket stereo problem
I have a 99 sl1 that was missing a stereo so I bought a sony to replace it. I wired it all up with the exception of the right front negative (I can't figure out which green wire it is). That however is the least of my problems. I did not have the factory connector so I wired it to the one that came with the sony. Power seems to be getting to the connector but the unit won't turn on. Also the chime for leaving your lights on and the rear defrost won't work (they did before the install). I checked the fuses but they were fine. I know the radio and chime share a fuse plus the radio has one of its own so I assume the problems are linked. I'm not sure if the defroster is related but it went out at the same time. any suggestions?
Unfortunately that is not an option since I don't have the original equipment. wires connected or disconneted doesn't make a difference. I'm gonna double check all my fuses again. Is there a relay somewhere that could be affecting it? Keep those suggestions coming.
Take a test light and check the wiring for power,if you have power you have a bad radio. Is it grounded correctly? Did you check for power at the fuse box? I usually check all fuses at ALL fuseblocks. Spend the money and get the right plug for a Saturn,do it right the first time and you have no worries then.
Problem solved. Fuses were good and power to the fuse box was good but the chime fuse wasn't getting good contact. I added a tiny metal strip to the prong on the fuse that wasn't getting good contact and presto. Everything works now.
