Hey everyone,

I have a 1998 Saturn SC2 with 128,000 miles on it. I have been having a problem for a while now when I first start to accelerate the car seems to hiccup. If I give it a little gas it will go then it will hesitate for a second then go again but its very jerky when it does this. It only does it right when I first touch the gas. This only happens when I let off the gas and give it gas. Doesnt matter the speed or RPM. Once I hold the gas down its fine once it does it little hiccup. I have replaced the fuel filter, TPS, MAP sensor, plugs and wires. Also has a new battery and starter. I also have put some fuel injector cleaner through it without any sucess. I am out of options. Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem? Thanks!

i have a 97 sl2 with the same problem. the car started out with a misfire. new plugs fixed that problem. then i replaced wires, coil pack and fuel filter. the tps was replaced 3yrs ago. so i don't think that is the issue.runs and accerates awesome but has an off idle stumble when driving. doesn't matter if i am taking off in first gear or shifting thru the gears or cruising in that matter. it does this when it starts to warm up. i am pulling my hair on this issue. but, i will try to clean tb and intake. maybe look at the egr as well even though there are no codes present.

 

Im thinking about just taking it to a dealer and having them fix it. Ive been at least 2 months on this problem and its really stressing me out haha. Im thinking at this point since I have replaced everything its probably the fuel injectors. That will be a pain to fix. If I make any progress I will let you know though! Keep me posted. A dirty air filter can cause an improper fuel mixture. I'm not trying to promote this product but the K&N filters I use on all my cars and one truck are really efficient. Try removing the air filter to see if the condition still exists ( wipe out all dirt that may be in the intake hose.

 

Fuel pressure could be low at idle causing hestitation. On Chrysler cars the fuel pressure only has to be off by 1 lb and the car won't start.

 

Have you scanned for codes? See if autozone can give you a code readout. They will usually do this for free. It sounds like a coil problem, but that kind of problem tends to trigger a misfire code.
