I've got a 92 Staurn 1.9l with 165k on it. Recently, it began cutting out at speed after driving for about 30 miles. It would shudder a few times, the speedometer would die each time it shuddered. After a few seconds, it would smooth out but the speedometer would stay off. All other gauges would be fine. Then it began giving trouble starting. It will start and idle but die as soon as I give it gas until it warms up. When it's hot it won't idle unless I give it gas constantly. The temp light comes on almost immediately when I start it and so does the fan. The fan also stays on when I shut the car off. After a mechanic's diagnosis, I replaced: plugs and wires, speed sensor, air intake temp sensor, coolant temp sensor and pigtail, and air idle control valve. No change. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

Try testing the throttel body, and maybe the fuel pump? And i always suggest getting codes read off just incase it tells you something simple...

Did you replace the correct temperature sensor? By the above description, your ECTS (engine coolant temperature sensor)is bad.

Sounds like you replaced the temp sensor for the guage, not the one the PCM uses to run the engine and activate the fan.

OK Yesterday I replaced the throttle position sensor and the fuel filter. Pressure is OK. No change. The code still indicates a bad coolant temp sensor. I replaced it again with one from Saturn. No change. I believe the top one (with one wire) is for the gauge. The bottom one (with two wires) is the one I've replaced. The gauge seems fine. It definately seems like it's a mixture problem that's causing the engine to run poorly. I'm thinking computer??? Anyone had any experience buying rebuilt computers online? Any good sources? Thanks for the help guys.
