Thanks for the reply. I did look at the part and it appears to be the same one. I ordered it and it should be here this week. What do you think of the metal shavings that I found on the magnet part of the sensor? Is this normal wear and tear or could it be a real problem? Thanks very much for your time.

The metal shavings shouldn't be there but may be due to too close a fit as the 'teeth' on the crankshaft may have shaved the plastic resin off the tip of the cps leaving metal souvenirs. There shouldn't be any physical contact between the 'teeth' and the cps unit and this contact/rubbing may be the cause of the cps failing. If you are able to measure the dimension in the hole to the point of contact with the crankshaft 'teeth' and compare this with the length of the cps protruding into the engine there should be a difference of at least a tenth of an inch. It may be a hit or miss when measuring the depth in the hole as you may or may not see the 'teeth' that would appear in order to measure depth clearance.
