2001 SL1 security alarm HELP!!!
Hello! I have a 2001 SL1 . Is it normal that evvvery time I open a door the alarm starts to sound?? It does it's mini honks, and if you don't get into the car fast enough to put the key in or, you press the unlock button on the remote, it will go off all the way! I leave the doors unlocked, but it doesn't matter! It is so annoying,, if I am just outside and need to go into the "unlocked" car for something,, I have to go inside and get the keys before I open the doors, any of the doors, so the alarm doesnt go off!! Is this annoyance normal??? Is there a way to program it so it doesn't go off when the doors are UNLOCKED?? Is there a way to just get rid of it or turn it off all together, but the door lock remote still work?? This is really driving me nuts!!! No!! Really!!! Thank you!
Try always unlocking the doors with the fob... even when they are unlocked.
On the older s cars, the only time the door alrm could go off an unlocked door is if you got into the car, locked all the doors with the fob, then manually unlock the driver's door then opened it. It sounds like the remote keyless entry module is successfully locking and unlocking the vehicle but it is not sending a signal to the body control module to indicate that the alarm should be disabled when the fob is used to unlock the doors. Do you have a spare fob you can try? You might also try visiting a Chevy dealer and see if you can get your fob reprogrammed. The fob itself may not be requesting that the alarm be turned off as I am pretty sure there is a way to configure the fob such that it does not activate theft mode which is what seems to be stuck on on your vehicle.

The last generation of s cars we're the only ones to have a BCM and thus passlock II. I've always assumed therefore that their behavior or misbehavior would be substantially the same as with the ions and the L's. And earlier vues. Same system same concept same sensor types. Clearly nobody learned anything from the S series BCM security issues. Oh wait. how many posts about s series security systems do we get on this forum?
Next to zero.
So basically it seems that GM came up with half decent programming for the S car BCM and a decent design for the ignition switch, then changed everything so that particularly the ions and l series implementations were crap.
Standard practice at GM.

I have to agree, derf. Saturn was a solid, stand alone car company and then GM had to start meddling with it and they went **** up. Too bad, because Saturn was cranking out some nice cars there in Tennessee.
