My car suddenly stalled 5 minutes after I filled the tank with not as much as a cough or whimper, just a dead stall. I could notrestart it. Isuspect the fuel pumpas I get a sort of "hollow" sound when I turn the ignition.I checked the fuse for thefuel pump and it's ok. Any suggestions? Edited by: neil18

Try removing the plug wires, #1 and #4 at the coil towers, have someone crank the engine while you observe for sparks across the coils. If no arcing occurs then the crank position sensor is faulty or failing as it can be an intermittent problem and the engine will run until you're stranded somewhere without the tools and the replacement part, the crank position sensor. Fuel pumps rarely fail as you can check the fuel pump and pressure; look for the fuel rail and there should be a schrader valve (the same as the tire valve) covered by a cap, remove it and have the ignition key in the ON position. For a few seconds there should be a slight humming sound then silence as the fuel pump cycles on then off. Cover the schrader valve with a rag, to absorb the raw gas spraying out, and depress the valve with a fingernail or screwdriver tip and there should be a healthy spray of fuel coming out. This verifies that the fuel pump is working and there is fuel pressure at the injectors.
