Default 08 Vue No Heat

Hi guys. New here. Trying to help my mother-in-law with her 08 Vue. This started yesterday. No heat blowing at all (only cold air). Fan blows at all speeds but only out of the defrost ducts toward the windshield regardless of dial settings (both temp control and function control). Car has plenty of coolant (visible in surge tank). Both heater hoses entering cabin from engine get warm to hot as engine heats up. Can visibly see fluid move in and out of surge tank when squeezing both upper and lower radiator hoses. Disconnected battery ground for a several minutes to reset ECM. Problem still persists. No check engine light visible. As mentioned, air only blows out defrost ducts regardless of function setting telling me the flapper doors are changing. However, this doesn't explain lack of hot air. A/C functions properly and blows cold air (only out defrost ducts).

Vue has 3.5L V6.

What am I missing? TIA

Regards,
Patrick

Sounds like the hvac control head. One post is enough on a subject.....the second will be removed.

Well I wasn't sure if I posted it in the appropriate place since it didn't seem to be getting any hits.

And if it makes a difference, I was wrong on the engine size. It has the 3.6L in it.

Stop in the new member area and give yourself an introdution. When done with that take a few moments to go to the USER CP top left of the page and add your first name, location, and car info to your "signature".

By hvac control head, I presume you are referring to the unit on the dash with the three ***** on it?

having owned a 2008 vue 3.6L myself, I believe that's what he's referring to. If it will only blow out of one vent regardless of setting and it ignores temp setting requests, I would suspect the electronics behind it are plum crazy at this point. I'm sure your heater core is fine. Then again, there's a chance these functions are handled by the BCM but I would doubt it.

Thanks for the help. Checked out Rock Auto. Looks like there are 3 to choose from. Any idea as to which is the correct one?

Well I have not looked at rockauto, and I have not looked at yourcar so maybe call and ask the seller.

Sounds like you've got a blend door problem. I don't know if it's vacuum controlled or electronically controlled on the Vue. I'd pull the control panel and check that out first. I don't know if you might be able to reach under the dash and get to the blend lever or not. I've never fooled with a Vue. Heck, I've never even sat in one to see how they're set up.
