ok so i have a 98 sl and it has just the regular tape player in it i wired up a jvc head unit just basic cd player.....i cant seem to get power to it???? I can have it plugged in and nothing then i can unplug it and plug in the stock one and it works? All the fuses are good so i need some help i have installed many stereos and never had this problem

Did you wire the radio harness adaptor correctly? Is the fuse on the JVC blown? Have you verified the the JVC is functional?

yea its wired correctly and the fuse and the head unit both are brand new right out of the box

But does it work? Its possible that you got a bad unit. I''d start by verifying that the unit actually works and work from there.

could i hook it up to say a 9 volt battery to check?

Sounds like the JVC has a different pin-out on the plug than the OEM unit. And, you need a 12 volt battery to test with ...

The one under the hood of the car would work better.
