Why would the brake lights stop working all of a sudden? Fuse?

Fuse, or your Brake on off switch.

I changed the fuse. or my brake "ON or Off" switch? Where is that located...unless you are talking about the ON/OFF switch to turn on/off the lights manually on the lever?
