Wider Wheels/tires

Been looking into getting some new wheels soon. I originally was going to get wheel spacers but i hear many negative things about them, but i still wanna fill that space so that the tires and the outter fender line up. So in lue of that i though of purchasing 16x8in wheels instead of spacers, plus ill get a bit more grip all around with a meaty tires. I just wasnt sure if i would have rubbing issues since the tire is much wider than the stock tires. Does anyone know or have wide tires on their car???

I have 16x7s on mine, which come up to be mostly flush with the wheel wells - 8s would go past the lip. (actually, looking at my pictures 8's would stick out haha) I dont have rub issues and I threw 205/55R16(i think) tires on it to keep it the same diameter as stock so my speedo wouldnt get messed up
Heres a few pics of my car I took with my friends, you can get an idea of how it lines up (hopefully) if not ill get ya better pictures

Ok nice... now another question i cant quite seem to understand is this Offset thing. Did you have to run any kind of offset or did you leave it at 0???

Octavious 02-02-2013 07:22 PM

mine is at 0 i think, the wheels i got matched right up to the hubs. i believe it refers to how far in the hubs go into the wheel- like where the flat part of the rim where you bolt down is in the rim.
dont hold me to that answer though hahaha im not all too familiar with it myself

Offsets read

ah ha! so that explains why I have rub - my wheels are 40mm offset when the car is 50mm....

It's always good to read the stickys on a website.

NO RUB

Rj I looked at the link of your pictures you have had some good looking Saturns.

sw2cam 03-29-2013 08:47 AM

He had some nice saturns alright. Just look at the cars he has now. They all look brand new. I stopped because it looked like a Saturn dealer. The garage was open so I thought it's a good time to meet this guy. His kids were over and there were Saturns all over the place. I never saw so many 2.4L ION's in one place in my life. Not to mention a Redline ION, a Redline VUE, a LW300, along with a SL2 that looked like it just left a car show. I got him to join this site just as I got you to join up. Had another neighbor on here that had an ASTRA, he sold it then moved to the east end of town. Maybe we can get a few more of the neighbors to join.

I love that red SL2 but would kill for that white wagon.

RjION 03-30-2013 09:52 AM

Octavious (what the hell is your first name I forgot) of all the Saturns I've had I miss my wagons. My first gen med red and most of all my third gen white SW2. I blew it when I sold that. Have not found anything evan close for a replacement. Thought about an ASTRA but it was missing to much of what I like, such as an armrest, console that could actually hold stuff, useable front cup holders, and a rear hatch thats opening thats as big as the space inside so the big item would fit though the damn door. Astra is also low on power. The damn non sychro 1st and reverse trans brought me back to days of my first car, and that was a 1956 Ford Customline 2dr post with a 3 on the tree.

We do kinda like the Ford Focus with the hotrod motor......but I rather buy GM and they have nothing I want.

eneloop 04-22-2013 08:35 PM

I just want a SKY

RjION 06-18-2013 06:24 PM

Well you now have a Solstice.............deal with it.

eneloop 07-24-2013 11:31 AM

I guess I'll have to live with this going for drives on cool nights with the top down. It's been tough for sure. I need to send sw a picture so he can put my avatar up.

what do y’all think ? Is 17x9.0 too wide ??

19bonestock88 05-01-2018 10:57 PM

9” might be a bit wide for an S series... what size tire? Gonna try stretching a 205 or 215 tire on there?

As noted above
