Scuffed front window glass. 2005 Vue.

My son made a tight right turn that rubbed the passenger side against a pole, causing a long horizontal scuff in the front passenger window. It also knocked off the passenger mirror, but that was an easy fix.

Did these windows come with factory tint. I've tried polishing compound and toothpaste, to no avail. Can the tint be removed and replaced or is the glass made this color? Do I have to replace the glass?

Scuff running horizontally across front passenger window.
It's hard to get a good pictur of this, but I tried.

By 2005 all cars with tinted windows can away from the factory. I don't know the mechanism by which the glass is actually tinted. It may be an overlayer which would make the most sense. I've never seen anyone do what your son did to the glass. Maybe someone else knows more. It's probably easiest to just replace the window. Shouldn't be too expensive from a junkyard
.

Thanks. I've seen the glass online for under $50, but it's clear/geen-tinged, not tinted. I hoped it was paint from whatever he scraped the car against, and that I could razor it off or buff it off, but no luck.

Surprises me. A bet a little googling will tell you how it's made. Also, go to gmpartsdirect.co and see if you can find more than 1 version of that window. There's no way an aftermarket tint would be on the outside.

Thanks. I've found two types now; green tint and solar tint. I'm pretty sure this would be solar tint, but I will confirm. It would be nice if I could find some way to buff it out. Repairs are coming out of my son's pocket. He's a.full-time student with a part-time job.

Can't tell from the picture, how deep in the window is it?

I can feel it with my fingernail. It almost feels like paint rubbed off onto the glass, but I can't razor it off or buff it off.

Don't mind me. I thought it was a gouge.

Go join a car detailing forum.
Those dudes have a solution for almost everything.

Seriously, explain in detail what he hit, how, and what you've tried.

I have ideas but one slip and you wreck the door paint.

They will explain how to do it properly

Maybe try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser?

Great suggestion. Thanks.
