Default Newb with some questions you've probably heard a thousand times

We just bought a used 06 Vue. Its the 2.2 with automatic (which I think is the 4 spd and not the 5 sp). After a short search, I didn't really find the answers to at least 2 questions.

1.) Where is the oil filter?

2.) How is the transmission fluid checked? The owners manual says take it to a dealer to have it checked. That seems unusual.

To answer question #2 -- they did away with the transmission dipstick, that's why it is now a "dealer check" task.

Pop the hood and its on the right side right behind your oil dipstick its a black plastic cap. Its a 1 1/4 socket. Should be easy to find

Look at the link. Mind you this is NOT my car, it belongs to someone that will go un-named. Also this is a 2007 2.4L ecotec, but the filter change is the same. Notice the filter is not crushed. If you find your is, you have the wrong filter OR it it was not snapped into the cap before install.
