Default ABS and stabilitrac lights on, also a Tire pressure sensor

Hi all--anyone with a Saturn Vue (mine is an 08) have this going on--the lights have been on, off, on, off. sometimes they stay on for months at a time and then they are off for months at a time. or they are on for a short car trip to the grocery, then are off for the ride home.

since I am in florida I am not too worried about not having stabilitrac.

I had always read and heard that not having the ABS doesn't affect the ability of the brakes to function.

posted another thread concerning some brake locking up issues that is just making me wonder if any of this might be connected.

thanks in advance for any insights.

You need someone to run codes on it. Believe it or not, I had a Chevy Equinox that had those lights come on and I ran the codes on it and it was the frigging EGR valve. Nobody could explain to me how the heck they were connected, but I replaced it and cleared the codes and the lights never came back on. I unloaded that piece of crap about 3 months later, though.

Interesting read on the camshaft link--I have the 2.4 liter four cylinder in my Vue. I did get a check engine light on a while ago and the code i got indicated something with the O2 intake valve if i am remembering right. My husband did replace both the intake and out take valves and you could see how different the intake valve looked--definitely damaged somehow.

The larger take home message is that your car can throw codes or turn on malfunction indicators for reasons other then the obvious first thought ("My Stabilitrac is broken").

So you need to approach this with a very broad view, since there are apparently many malfunctions that will disable ABS and Stabilitrac functionality that are often highly non obvious at first.

took the car to advance auto parts and got four different codes. C0035 left front wheel speed censor, C0040 right front wheel speed censor, C0131 ABS traction control and C0899 device circuit power low ABS. haven't had a chance to check what these mean but figured I would post an update on the codes.

I believe if the ABS light is on, the ABS is disabled.
So these could be real and apply NOW, or they could have been set BEFORE the ABS and Stabilitrac lights came on. Or they could be an artifact from the C0899 ABS circuit power low, which means the system is not getting the power it needs to operate properly.

I would suggest that the "circuit power low" code be addressed first as the rest may be phantom codes as a result of this one.

As for troubleshooting ABS codes, I have 0 experience so I will not be able to help you further.

You may wish to have the codes cleared (with a sophisticated enough scan tool to clear C codes) and see what comes back, then troubleshoot.

Could is possibly be something as simple as a battery that's losing voltage and slowly dying? IDK, I'm not a mechanic. Just speculating.
