Default 2003 Vue 4 Cylinder Transmission Evap Hose HELP

Just bought a used 2003 Vue with a service engine soon light on. Had the code scanned and it is P0440 Evaporative Emission System. When I bought the car it ran and drove fine but I noticed a loose hose underneath the car. I cannot figure out where to attach this hose to. It is connected at the top of the transmission it appears and is pretty long in length about 3 feet. I'm pretty sure this hose is what is causing the computer to throw a code. I attached 2 photos one is where the hose is attached to the transmission and the other is the other side of the hose i currently have taped inside the engine bay to keep it safe till I find out where to put it. It is such a simple issue but cannot find where to attach this hose at all.
currently have one end of the hose taped inside engine bay to keep it out of the way and safe.

where the other end of the hose attaches to the top of the transmission towards the rear of the engine bay.

That is the vent hose for the transmission, it has nothing to do with any codes you may have.

However in your first picture you also show part of the evap system. The black plastic piece with the green cap is where the evap system connects to the engine end of the system. It looks like it may be damaged to me.
Disclaimer
I do not have a Vue nor do I have any books covering them. I do have books that cover the L series cars and they use the same L61 2.2 liter engine.

Disclaimer: Used to own a 2008 Vue XR -- totally different animal than yours:

Rather than pontificate as to what the issue might be, I thought I'd pass along some GM Service Manual documents I tracked down for a 2003 Vue 2.2L I4 and 3.0 V6 on another forum (saturnfans.com).

I should probably cut and paste but I haven't gone to bed yet and I'm tired.

So here they are as attachments.

1) explains the EVAP system and what comprises it.
2) (NOTE: THIS IS FOR A 3.0 V6 not a 2.2 but how the system works and the parts that are involved are basically the same) -- Location of the different components and the routing of the hoses between them.
3) a TSB about the code -- but the ECM should be your LAST resort unless something indicates otherwise.

Gnite.

PS: If you replace your gas cap, replace it with an OEM GM cap or you will have problems (per other Vue owners).
If the facility did not replace the cap with an OEM one, replace it with an OEM one.
