If they cleared the check engine light right before you bought it, you should be able to extract the mileage, subtract what you have driven, and see if it matches the mileage at which you bought it. In which case, I would consider it fraud by misrepresentation. But I'm not a lawyer.
Now that it doesn't start, does the dash light up like a Christmas tree when you turn the key to on, exceeding the bulb check time?
