Upgrades
Hey I was just thinking today about putting upgrades into the motor though would it be worth it and if it is I don't want the car to sound like those ricers out there. I just would like it to sound nice and even look nicer in appearance when I am somewhere with it. So I am wondering what would you all do first if you had the choice?
There quite a few of performance modification you could do if you have a DOHC motor. No matter what you do to your SOHC engine, it still wont have the performance of a stock DOHC engine. So if you want better performance, spend your money on a twincam swap if you have a single cam motor.
As for body kits, there a few out there. All are ugly.
A header wont get you 10 to 15 horsepower, not on a DOHC and especially not on a SOHC. If you have 1993-1998 DOHC motor, your bet bang for the buck is a factory 1991-1992 header. Its a tubular design and what all the other aftermarket companies copy.
Exhaust systems can easily be done at any local muffler shop. Just make sure you use a large resonator in conjunction with a good flowing muffler so it doesnt sound raspy.
Stay away from eBay performance chips or performance modules. They do more harm than good.

i am thinking about an exhaust job next as well. but i know nothing about the resonators. whats up with that and where do they go? I know i had to remove on when i installed my aem intake. is the same thing? also, i don't want an exhaust that sounds friggin retarded. i was wondering if anyone has a muffler they recommend because of the way it sounds.
A resonator is also part of the exhaust system. It goes between the catalytic converter and muffler. On an exhaust system with a free flowing muffler, it helps give the exhaust a deeper tone. The longer the resonator the better.
i just checked out your cardomain Low Saturn, very nice car man! I see you have a flowmaster exhaust. I have one on both of my pickups, but i was doubtful about how it would sound on my sl2. what do you think, are you happy with the sound. i am a huge flowmaster fan, so if you can convince me they rock on a 1.9l, i'm all for it.
btw, is that car supercharged?

yea im gonna start looking into an exhaust system for my car just need to find one that wont sound ricer once its on i just want it to sound deeper and better and should i get a new ecu chip or leave it stock?
