Security light question
Hello all. New used Saturn owner here. Recently bought a 2002 SC1 that had the usual EGR and P0410 issues I've been reading about. I followed all the steps needed to clean everything to get codes to clear but P0410 kept coming back on, so followed advice in another thread and pulled negative cable and let sit for over half hour then hooked everything back up. Everything seems normal except now when I lock with key fob, the security light flashes every few seconds whether I single tap fob or double tap and get the short beep. The car starts without issue and when I try to do the relearn procedure I've read in other posts my security light doesn't illuminate after the attempting start and leave in run for 10 minute step. Is the security light supposed to blink when armed? I hadn't noticed it before now.
If it functions properly I would leave it as is. There are many many many Saturns that went to the graveyard due to issues with passlock security which is integrated into the body control module and is expensive enough to be worth more than the vehicle.
What probably happened is that your security settings went back to the absolute factory default. I have seen posts on other forums and possibly this one and possibly even from me that explain how to select certain options. Ie honk no honk, security light behavior when engaged, how many lock button pushes engage the system, whether or not one lock push opens driver door or all doors.....
Most remote entry systems for today's cars and even back then have some flexibility in these settings. It's just that no one tells you that they exist and the dealer sets them to a standard most common setting.
Again, if security is actually being activated which you can test at 3:00 in the morning by entering your own car with security armed and having the thing honk like hell, and it is disarming properly and allowing you to start the vehicle, by all means do not mess with it for now. If you find the list of options for the different settings, it's up to you whether you want to play with it or not.
2002 would likely require a dealer tool to reconfigure. Things like this happen when even the keep alive memory loses power and gets erased if the battery is disconnected long enough. Not always but sometimes.

Ok thank you. I just didn't know if I had to reset something else or if the flashing would drain battery if I didn't correct it. I guess I'm just going to let a sleeping dog lie lol.
I think you are good to go. Most vehicles flash the security light. I've never owned a third generation S car, only first gen and second gen which did not have a BCM and therefore no passlock thank (whatever deity you want to insert)
Yeah my Jeep Grand Cherokee had a red light that flashed when I set the security system. Gonna assume then that's what this is based on your replies. Like you said in first post, maybe prior owner had that turned off and since I unhooked the battery it reset to factory defaults. Or maybe it's done it and I just never noticed til last night.
