Hey all new here, looking for some quick help.

My Gfs 97 SL2 has a twin cam engine, that has no compression in number 3 cylinder, so engine is shot.

We picked up a 2002 single cam engine with low miles for $400.. will this engine work in her car? it is a 5 speed

I appreciate any help!

Not as a direct drop in. You'll need a 1997 single cam PCM, instrument gauge cluster and correct transmission. A 1995-1997 automatic or a 1995-1997 manual depending on which you have now. Also depending on how complete the engine you just bought is, you'll also need the SOHC power steering bracket, both A/C brackets, intake manifold, exhaust manifold and downpipe, fuel injectors, fuel rail, throttle body, and spark plug wires.

Or you can tear down both and piece together a useable DOHC engine.

BTW, $400 is a lot for a used engine, especially a single cam. When I swapped a DOHC engine into my 1993 single cam SW, I took the single cam engine to a metal recycler rather than trying to sell it because they're basically worthless.
