year model mileage?

Could be issue with cooling fan under the hood not coming on due to bad cooling fan relay, bad fan motor, wiring, etc. Could be that ECTS has failed and therefore the PCM is not telling the fan to kick in.

it's a 99.i'm not sure how many miles but the fan does work cause it stays on till the engine gets half way back to cool then kicks off.

so you never look at the odometer?

fan operation seems normal for an s car. Doesn't sound like an issue.
