hello all...i have a 1996 SL1 as a daily driver. i love this car, i got this car for free with a locked up motor. so i bought a used engine with 50K miles on it and swapped it in one weekend.

now my question: i got this car with no working windows or sunroof! when you press the buttons inbetween the front seats i hear nothing. i replaced the window relay and they still dont work, any suggestions please!?!?

I assume since you replaced the relay, you also checked all the fuses. How familiar are you with using a multi-meter? pop the switches out and verify that they are getting power to them and that they are in working order. It's just a matter of tracing where you stop getting power. The only other possiblility is that all window motors and sunroof are burnt out - very very unlikely. hope this helps

Mine are toasted too... Sunroof just clicks like it's off track (any hints?) and my passenger window goes down but you have to pull at the window at the same time as pushing the button to get it to go up... 97 SC2 btw...

check the fuses near the kick panel.... it's very easy, and a good starting point to solving electrical problems. If you've got a test light it's even easier cause you don't have to take out the fuses to check them.

Your track for the window may be dried up (grease is gone) and do the window as a tough time rolling up... spray some silicone lubricant on the track or try to grease it. If this doesn't work then it sounds like your window motor has gone to sh*t and you'll need to replace it. Sun roof clicks?...... don't know if i'm much help 4 that... never owned an electric sun-roof car

That's my sunroof after I've closed it... It's been in that same spot for awhile now since it won't open or close anymore... It's annoying but at least it was closed enough to keep the rain out this winter...

Fuses (a tester light would help tremendously in this case)

Relay (just swap it anyways, they're cheap)

Possibly the switch (if something was spilled on it or the previous owner pushed them very hard)

Wiring (a multi-meter would work so you don't have to actually trace the wires)

Tracks (pop the door panel off [see Hayes 11-4 I think it was] and rub your finger along it to check)

Motors (bleh... just bleh)

ok here is an update on what i have found...all fuses are good checked with test light.

changed the window relay

switch seems to be okay visably

now here is what i have found while investigating

the dashboard fuse IGN 3 *7.5amp* fuse blows as soon as i put it in and turn the keys.

all the fuses under the hood are good..i took the fuse box out flipped it around and the brown wire off the DRL relay looked as it has burnt up*could see the wire through the brown coating*

the grounding spot under the drivers seat is good no corrosion.

i have disconnected everything * window relay, sunroof fuse, unplugged the window switch...and the IGN3 fuse still blows

any suggestions now??
