Default new guy help

bought a sl2 a couple of months ago,car ran fine with only 106k on it, the other day my daughter was coming home from work and it stared making noises when she stared it up, just like noisey lifters, i know it doesnt have lifters but sounds the same, took it to a mechanic and he said possible head or piston damage,
was not throuing any codes, but he pulled a p0401-insufficient egr flow, i
pulled the vavle cover off to see if i could see any thing wrong, well ifound nothing, any ideas were to go from here, i like the car but hope i dont have to pour a lot of money in it.

Try pulling off the egr valve and cleaning it and the port where it's mounted.

You may need stiff wire to clear out the hole on the intake. These passages can get clogged with carbon and sometimes it's a challenge to clear the passages.

starting the engine with the egr removed will also blast some chunks out -- it's very loud and will **** off your neighbors. Wear eye protection

Just out of curiosity, where did it say some one actually checked to see if there was any oil in the thing?
