Default Need Saturn SL1 Help!!

Ok so its my girlies car, and I have looked into the problem. And found a couple of solutions, but wanted to run it by other poeple. Theres a few problems, but ill start with the first.

1. When in drive and driving the car will act like its wanting to shift, then it kinda hesitates, and stays in gear and will do it again and again, till you let off the gas, then push on it again. Then it will shift normally. Im thinking this has something to do with a shift solinod.

2. When you drive and go wherever your going, then stop and put it in park it likes to rev to like 2k-3k RPM's. And sit there till you turn the car off. Im thinking this is a problem with the Idle Air Conterol Valve, but idk.

3. And now like 3 days ago, I think a coolant line cracked, due to the colder weather we have been having, and it likes to leak coolant. I have been keeping an eye on it and making sure it stays full. But ill be looking into that more on my next day off, and just go over all the radiator lines, and resivisor lines.

So right now, thats the only few things that wrong with car, other then that its a great daily driving car, and thats how I want to keep it. So if any of your guys have anything to input on this and let me know how to fix it that would be great. Or if you guys have any other ideas on how I should go about getting more info on these issues that would be great also. So thanks in advance.

(1) Sounds like the transmission could stand a flush/fill/service. Find out if your girl remembers when it was done last.

(2) Run the car by your local AutoZone (or equal) store, and have them check the computer for any codes. List them (code numbers) here ...

(3) Also check the tanks on the radiator itself, they are plastic too

1)OK sounds good, Ill probably have jiffy lube do one of there trans flushes, to take care of that.

2)I have a auto-zone right by my house where a friend works so he wont BS me, like I have seen them do sometimes.

3)Yea I have those on the check list already.

Don't flush the transmission. Most people, especially people at Jiffy Lube do not know how to do it properly and can do serious damage to the transmission. It's best to just drop the pan, clean/replace the filter and then refill. It won't replace all the fluid, but it will be enough.

But the trans fluid may not be your problem. Both 1 and 2 could be due to a leaking intake manifold gasket around the #1 cylinder. It's a common problem. Spray a little carb/throttle body cleaner around this area to see if it affects the idle. Any affect means a leak.

Depending on the year you may have a problem getting auto zone to check for a code, if its an OBD1 they probably will not have it, I have yet to find one that does..

pretty funny cause they often use actron brand scanners and there is an actron ODBII to ODBI converter widget available (i have one) -- they just don't care enough to take one out of the package and use it

well I figured out the seal on the water pump had gone. So I replaced the water pump and thermostat which was a real PITA. Also replaced the oil, trans mission fluid, spark plugs, and wires, and acc. belt.

the fast idle problem on mine was related to the coolant temp sensor. an easy fix.
