Default my 2000 saturn sl1 is very sick!!!!

on top of the numerous problems my car already has, yesterday my car rolled over to 140000kms ( it's a canadian) and a horrible shake that feels like its coming from the back started, also the service engine soon light has come on. i NEED to get this fixed asap cuz i do alot of highway driving but i can't afford an expencive repair. i know alot of mechanical people, so if anyone helps me diagnoses the problem i could probably get it fixed cheap.

also my car wont hold a charge but the alternator light isn't on.

RESTORE MY FAITH IN SATURNS PEOPLE! DON"T MAKE ME GO JAP.

Have your mechanical buds check the balance on your tyres. Sounds like you might have thrown a wheel weight. Service light may simply be because its time to have an oil change. If the battery is more than three years old, I'd replace it ....

please have diag codes read and post them here (the actual Pxxx codes, not the descriptions). We'll help you troubleshoot it from there.

Battery not holding charge + no battery/alt warning light = worn out battery that cannot hold a charge. Replace.

As for vibrations from rear, the most likely source has already been pointed out -- wheel(s) out of balance.

Also, with that many miles (km's , sorry), might be a wheel bearing -- but check the easy stuff first......

Unhappy

sorry i've been gone for so long i was out of town.

ok so theother day i was driving back from work and my rear tire exploded, like completely, and they were brand new, so it turns out the defective tire caused a fair bit of vibration and thats probably the problem.

also it needs the outter tie rods done but thats no biggy.

now back to my alternator/battery situation. i replaced the battery cuz my mechanic said to and it still didn't help so it must be the alternator but it tests good on there computer, so i'm not sure if to just replace it or if there is a possiblity of another problem.

oh ya also Pxxx codes??? i dunno what the hell that is lol. how do i make my car give me these codes? do i need like a machine or something? my mechanic is pretty much useless and won't tell me what they are! but ya, if you tell me how to find them i'll get them for ya.

thanks for all the help so far!

Your mechanic will know how to retrieve/download the codes from your car. Get a list of the numbers, and post them here, please.

Sounds like your mechanic is being a ***** if he won't give you the codes. I'd find another.

Did the same ***** sell you the exploding tires? I hope you got the other rear one replaced (from your post it sounds like you bought a pair).

In the mean time, stop by an Autozone or similar store and get the codes read with an ODB II scanning tool. They'll do it for free -- be sure to write down the codes in the form P### (P followed by 4 digits).

W/r/t/ alternator -- measure the DC voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running --it should be close to 14.4 V.

Report back with codes and voltage and we'll take it from there....

ok i will definatly get those codes, as soon as i can and the voltage to like you guys said.

yeah he is a ***** and he sold me the tire that exploded, i did replace them both i was scared the other was defective too.

currently i'm trying to find a mechanic that doesn't suck but there aren't many in my area.

so in the mean time i have another question, i was stupid enough to use my wipers in a car wash and now my driver side one is ripped offf i got a new arm but i can't figure out how to take the old ones (well whats left of it) off. i figured if i removed the nut that is at the base of the arm, it would just come off but apearntly not lol it looks like it should but it doesn't. what am i doing wrong??

thanks again for all the help I'm starting to get this whole do it yourself car repair bussiness.
