SW-2 1995

Borrowed car to someone and they got side swiped, I think they collided at this wheel lots of tire marks on it and the decorative nuts were busted

The locking nut refuses to come out with the key although other wheels came off easy

Tried penetrating oil but a Crack occurred trying to loose it and the crack seems to go into the key slot. What do I do now? Aluminum rim btw

Can you weld a nut onto it?

 

Do you mean, weld the locking nut onto it or what do you mean,

 

Weld a conventional nut to the cracked wheel lock. It should be easier to remove, then replace it with a matching wheel lug nut.

 

I've taken welding classes but only own an oxy-acetylene , not sure how great a weld it would be maybe better idea to do it with GMAW/GTAW?

Are the lug nuts hardened steel?

 

I'd arc it myself. The steel is like grade 2 to 4.

 

It is cracked in these red line areas , hard to see with my photo, 1/4th of the circular wall is cracked open, I'm worried that it will just keep tearing around even after welding a nut on (weld blue spots with a regular nut). Because there is nothing connected to put tension on 1/4th of the threads area

Wouldnt the tension trying to remove this lock after welding still be on the ring ? Wouldn't the crack around ring just keep developing unless I can weld right next to the hub to close the ringed crack?

 

If you can't weld then cut.

 

Can always drill it out.

Then replace stud.

 

Ball peen hammer and a sharp chisel is what I'd use.
