Default Keyless entry

98 sl2
Would low battery power cause a keyless entry to malfunction? car will not start all lights come on but the lock goes up & down non stop for over 2mins. the car has 98K, and the engine light is on.
Do I need to just reprogram ? My 80yr aunt drives it about once or twice with in a two week Period!

Yes, a low voltage battery could cause the symptoms you describe. First thing to do would be make sure all battery connections are tight, both at the battery, and on the fuse block, starter and the ground cable to the chassis. Then, get the engine running, and with a voltmeter, measure the voltage on the battery (should be about 14.6VDC).

Easier thing, would be to drive the car down to AutoZone, NAPA, O'Reiley's (or some such) and have them test both the alternator for proper output, and the battery itself for proper charge and capacity. Good luck, and let us know how you come out
