Humming noise increases with speed
Hey guys,
I am new on the forum. I am diagnosing my friend's 2002 Saturn SL2 with an auto trans. I work on my 1990 Volvo 240 pretty often, but know nothing about Saturns.
The car makes a humming noise when driving over 45 mph. It gets louder with higher speeds - could the wheel bearings be going out? I tried searching the forum for similar problems, but couldn't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
mike

Get the car up to speed, and shift the transmission into neutral and let the engine idle down -- still hear the humming ??
Do a tire rotation on the car, and see if the sound changes.
The possibility of one or more wheel bearings going bad cannot be overlooked. I had to change one while on vacation in Ohio a few years ago (Columbus, Ohio - northside).
