I really need some advice, so your help is greatly appreciated! I have a 2002 SL1 that I love and don''t want to get rid of, so I would like to fix this issue.

My car idles high (up to 3000 rpms), only sometimes, when I put it into Park. I did have the gasket replaced a couple years ago due to same issues I believe - and the problem came back.

Today, I turned the car on, and the rpms went very low, down to 200, then stalled. It started back up, but on the way home when I would stop, it would want to stall again, so I had to rev the engine to keep it running. Later the same day it was running OK, but I could tell the rpm''s were a little jumpy. It seems to be an intermittent problem but getting worse. My check engine light is on.

Please help with advice! I''d greatly appreciate any ideas as to what this could be. It is a 2002 SL1 4cyl w/ about 90K miles on it.

 

I just remembered I didn''t have the ''gasket'' replaced, I had the intake manifold gasket replaced, if that is of any help. Thanks again!

 

Best thing to do, would be to drop by an AutoZone (or similar auto parts house) and have them do a scan and find out what codes are set causing the check engine light to illuminate ...

 

i had that problem once i parked at work and the car almost shut off to the point where it was off and then caught it self before i could think about what had happened. and now it will start and run for olny a few minutes, (when im in park, drive, netural) and then die. idk what the problem is.

what is the code for the check engine light. mine is PO446 which is the evap system malfunction.
