Default First Post, First Saturn Ignition issues

Hi,everyone. I recently purchased a 2006 SW2 Wagon with 121k as a gas saving alternative to my Yukon XL. I have to say, I love this little car. It does, however, have a few gremlins such as a posessed driver's door lock mechanism and ignition issues.

In regards to the ignition: The key would occassionally not turn or when it did, I got nothing as far as the motor turning over. I pulled the lock cylinder and gave it a good cleaning. The car turned over great for 15-20 turns then again, nothing. Atleast the key turned. As a result, I purchased a new cylinder assembly. Still the problem of turning the key once in a while and nothing. The car will turn over if I remove the key or put the transmission in neutral.

It does have remote keyless entry and have read a few posts about that. I'm just trying to nail down between the rke, neutral safety switch or the ignition switch.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

A 2006 you say, and it's a SW2.

Yup, something amiss there, I think...I didn't think they were made past '02 or so...

Maybe it's an ION wagon, but they are so rare.

guess that shows how much I know about this car. I got zero paperwork with it. I'll have to see if I can figure it out from the VIN or hopefully it'll say so on the door card.

Easily figured out from the VIN ----

Fourth and fifth character in the VIN designates the platform and series type

Sixth digit designates the body type

Eighth digit designates the engine type

Look at the VIN plate on the driver's side of the dash ... what letters/numbers do you have in those spots ???

Parts counter man: Can I help you mam ?
Yes I need an alternator.
Parts counter man: What year, make, and model is your car ?
I dunno it's green and has four doors.
Parts counter man: I'll need more information than that.

Try searching the internet for something like 2006 GM PASSENGER CAR VIN SYSTEM.

(install correct year if not the same as above)

Did you get an owners manual with your car, whatever year it is? If so, look through it. There should be information about setting the door locks. This may be a remote key problem. Stranger things have happened.
