I just bought a 1997 SL2 that the owner said had a blown head gasket. How hard is it to replace the heag gasket? How can you keep the camshafts timed without taking off the front cover? I have been looking for a repair manual, are the Chiltons or Haynes books very good?

Chilton Haynes and Mitchels are adequate. While not complete as in a Factory Manual, rarely do I find myself backed into a corner.
