96 SL1. Cracked head. Oil leaking into the coolant. 140,000 miles. Worth putting a new head on? Cost? Rebuild heads on ebay are around $300ish with shipping. I would take it to someone and have them do the work. I''ve heard around 4 hours labor. Plus the gasket set and new headbolts.

Hard to say. What caused the original head to crack? What is the condition of the "lower end" of the motor? Is the block face true, or is it warped? Many questions that will affect the answer. Get a very trustworthy mechanic, and he''ll tell you the good(bad) news ...

I''ve purchased several rebuilt heads on ebay (from florida I believe) and have been quite satisfied. You get ayear warranty also. From the 94 sc2 I put a head on that had 175K on it I found almost no cylinder wear and no block warpage so I wouldn''t be afraid of putting another head on. If it ran good before with not much oil consumption, no knocking, etc.. I''d do it.
