Hello everyone, nice forum you have here.

I have searched a bit and found some answers to this issue. From what I understand it can be the ECTS, which I will be checking for corrosion, etc. soon. What I've also read is that it can be the fuel pump losing prime...

The fuel pump is what I truly think is my issue. I have read to leave the key turned to "on" without cranking the engine for ~5 seconds before starting the car. This makes perfect sense as I'm at least somewhat mechanically inclined.

My question is this: Is there more of a permanent fix for this?

Thank you for your time!

1997's and 1998's are know to have fuel pump problems.

Also have you ever replaced the fuel filter?

I have not changed the filter, good idea.

So with the 97-98 fuel pump problems...does a replacement pump fix it?

Yes, a replacement pump would be necessary. I'd start with a new filter though. Especially if its never been changed.

Well, times as they are...I'll change the filter and wait for the pump to die before replacing it.

You could always pick up a cheap fuel pressure tester to see if the pump is putting out the correct amount of pressure.

Another good idea. Buddy of mine runs his own shop, I had thought about taking it to him for the filter regardless. You just sealed the deal since he'd check pressure for free.

Problem is that I don't want to put alot of money into the car. I bought it for under $1000 and have less than $500 on top of that to make it a reliable daily driver. Had a rotten driver's side A-frame / engine crade when I bought it, which I have also read on here is semi-common.

Thanks for your responses and how quick they have come! Slight off-topic: Any chance you know what typically rattles in the undercarriage? I put on a muffler hanger thinking that was it, helped but didn't solve the issue. I'm in Ohio where things rot out due to salt...I'd think some sort of skid plate or something of the like.

Usually worn engine/tranny mounts can cause vibration in other places. Check your upper engine and lower transmission mount. These are typically the ones that wear out.

Cool, I'll check them out before too long. May take a bit to get myself under there, snowing and nasty out haha.

Thanks again for all your help.
