93 vents not working
I have a 93 sl1. When I turn the heat on/or cool air, and have it pointed at my feet, only the window defrost vents seem to work, and when i slide it to face vents, still only the window defrost works. If anyone has any idea on how i could fix this problem, it would be great. Driving to work with steel toe boots in the winter time, it kinda gets cold on the feet. Thanks alot, Matthew
That slide lever operates a cable linkageso you'll have to carefully remove the panel to get to the cable and linkages to find the cause of the problem. It may simply be a loose clamp where you'll have to re-align the lever/cable linkage. If the lever moves too easily this may be an indication of either a loose cable not moving the door right or there's a blockage in the HVAC box, perhaps worn foam used for insulating airflow and now pulverizing, clogging free movement inside the box. Look around both sides of the control panel, you may find the cable linkage.
The difficulty in moving the lever is the hint of binding somewhere that's has the door mechanism stuck in the defrost position. Don't force it until you can locate the cable linkage assembly and anything else required to allow the lever to move properly. Sometimes partially taking things apart will reveal more than removing everything. There's only a spot that holds the wire cable in alignment to allow full movement foradjustment in each mode. Its not the clamp you're thinking of but a clamp to restrict lever movement to prevent the lever from sloppy travel. Removing slack.
