Most water pumps, I'd say yes, but having replaced one on my Saturn, I'd guess that is fair. Are you providing the bandages for his knuckles?

That is good you have a visual check. Do the water pump, drive it for a few weeks, see if you have any more issues.


Doing a compression test would definitely put the nails around the coffin of idea it has engine problems. However, it costs money to rent or buy the compression tester and/or had your friend test it.


Honestly, if you own an old car, get simple tool kit at Harbor Freight for $50 and a Haynes manual for $10 to $25 (used/ new) off the internet. If you are up to the challenge, it just depends.

Got the car back from my friend, he didn't say anything about blown gaskets. He said it didn't look like the water pump failed, he's blaming the leak on the gasket or whomever put it on. He also pointed out that the car vibrates a lot, he says it's because of a broken engine mount.

I don't mind the vibrations. Like Federal suggests, I'll probably just drive it around for a few weeks to see if I got any other problems.

Saw a couple of youtube videos on engine mounts, that's something I think I can tackle. Basic unbolt and bolt.

But before I even do that, maybe I should do some other maintenance first? Maybe spark plugs? Or replace Trans fluid or brake fluid?

Someone told me Summit Racing has good engine mounts for Saturn ... much better than the original stock units.


True, when I think Summit, I think race ready small block Chevys but they seem to have a lot more on line these days.


Don't you love youtube, it didn't exist when I started fixing cars. What a great resource.
