Default 1997 vs 1998 SOHC engine specs

In a failed attempt to resolve the problem i have been having in this thread(https://www.saturnforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3590), I have come across another small stumbling block, it seems the 1997 and 1998 have differant diagnostic equiptment involved with the ECM, so i was curious to know if anyone had access to the specifics involved with it (base numbers, firing timing etc...). I am curious about this because the dealership said they couldnt flash my 1997 sl2 chassis to the 1998 sl1 engine, so I am thinking the 1997 sl1 engine should produce similar results to the 1998 sl1 engine unless they have differances in the ECM numbers.
