Default 1994 Saturn Odometer update...

I finally got my odometer working....

As all of you who have had a 1992 to 1994 Saturn they are prone to malfunctioning odometers.

You all should know that the cause is the original red gears in the odometer drive just self destruct and make the odometer malfunction.

This happened to me and I had the red gears replaced with new black gears and it worked for a long time then started malfunctioning again.

This time I tore down the interment panel I discovered that the white disk which the old red gears or the new black gears mount to was warped preventing the odometer drive motor from turning.

I bought a replacement instrument panel and tore it down and then combined parts from both units to make a functioning instrument panel with a working odometer.

By the way the replacement interment panel had red odometer gears and they just crumbled when I tried to remove them.

Lastly due to the large expansive windshield projecting a large amount of heat on the dash area has made all the plastic used there very very brittle and great care was needed to do repairs.

Thank to all..

I never had a problem with any of the s-cars I've had. But all cars are "prone" to something and many cars have speedo problems.

Then a 1991 to 1994 odometer fails it is the red drive gears in the odometer. The problem seems to be also may be caused by use of the odometer trip reset either mashing too hard or depressing it while you are driving.

I had two local odometer repair companies fix mine and then I repaired it my self. I bought two replacement odometers (one local, one EBay) and both has gearing problems.

So if your 1991 to 1994 odometer doesn't work you most likely have gear problems.

Good news is you can buy new replacement gears and it isn't too hard to replace the gears.

The only problem is it legal to work on your odometer?

I adjusted odometer reading on my last repair adding about 5,000 I estimated it traveled. I could do that because I keep gas records when I fill up.

Hoped this helps...
