For about 5 years its taken about 5-10 seconds of cranking to start the car. I just figured the pump was going little by little. I went to start it the other day after driving it and it won't crank at all. I'm assuming its the pump. Any ideas before I drop the tank to replace the pump? Where is the relay for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Edited by: sw2cam

The relay is on the interior fuse panel. Test for pressure at the fuel rail and depending on the year, it could be the regulator. I'd check all those things before dropping the tank and swapping the pump.

I checked the relay and it is working. It clicks when the key is first turned and when you crank it and "unclicks" after 3 seconds. I don't hear anything from the rear of the car though when this is done. How hard is it to replace the fuel pump. Any links on steps? Thanks

Lift the car wayyyyyyy up in the rear, disconnect the two hoses, unbolt the straps, lower the tank, unplug the electrical connector, disconnect the fuel lines, remove the tank.

Then disengage the locking ring at the top of the tank and remove the pump.

Ok sounds basic enough...and SPECIAL tools required? I'm Ford guy and every connector or locking mechanism on a Ford has to have its own unique special tool to fix something. Thanks

Nope, no special tools required.
