I was wondering if it is possible to take the manual 5-speed from a L-200 and swap it with the transmission in a base SL? I have my sisters car as a donor, the model difference is what is stumping me. I've read that the clutch and throw out bearing are the same but will everything bolt up nice and snug?

Ummmm

No. They will not bolt up.

The only trannys that bolt to S series blocks are the MP2/MP3/MPx trannys designed specifically for the S cars at the time.

The5-speed Getrag F23 tranny in the L series is a different animal.

The L cars were related to both an Opel Vectra B and the Saab 9 series.
The S cars were a standalone design. Hence why an Ecotec will not bolt in.

The L series actually has a rod shifted F35. But the answer remains the same, alas no it will not fit.

Ya know....that's the first time I've ever been let down by Wikipedia on such a simple stat.

My apologies. F35 it is. You should know, Andy!

(It's this kind of thing that used to stop me from answering Ion questions....)

I corrected Wikipedia entry ;)
