That, and it is both messy and annoying.

Thanks for everyone's continued cooperation

My sincere apologies. I did not realize my faux pas and will avoid doing so in the future. Definitely don't want to be messy or annoying to anyone. Sorry.

For the record, I believe you are the only person to ever join this forum that has pursued any mechanical work whatsoever on a Saturn Relay.

I want to non sarcastically congratulate you on that. It seems the owner demographic for that vehicle is absolutely perpendicular to automotive forums, so we do enjoy when relay owners stop by.

Please report back on the outcome. This form has precious little repair information regarding the relay so you will likely help many people going forward.

I don't think I've ever actually seen a Relay. The only way I've seen one is in photos. They're scarce.

I've seen a total of one on the road. It was some strange vehicle with a Saturn badge and took me 2 minutes to figure out that it was a relay. Totally out of sync with what the Saturn crowd was looking for.

But that's all irrelevant now.

Will a full sheet of 4x8 plywood fit in the vehicle with the seats folded down?

Hello,
It's me again. Just wanted to say I still haven't fixed my transmission due to cost, but I may have found a mechanic to finally fix it and the price is affordable for me. I would like and honest opinion though. Does anybody know how much is "reasonable" when it comes to repairing a transmission. Not rebuilding it just replacing a solenoid? I don't want to mention the price I was quoted until I receive some quotes from the members on here. Thanks again everyone. Have a great day.

Dirt cheap estimate by non-mechanic:

Parts:
You already have the solenoid. My guess is he won't start but give no warranty. Works for me in this situation.

Probably add in 50 to $100 for miscellaneous things like gaskets, fluids, filters. I'm assuming you're getting the transmission fluid changed at the same time.

I'd say total 1.5 hours labor at 125.00 an hour equals 185 in labor plus 100 in random stuff call it $300 total. If he recommends changing other solenoids, then more on the parts side.

Hello derf
19 months later, my relay is still running and I never did get the transmission fixed properly. Not too long after changing the 1-2 shift solenoid another solenoid went out. I think 3-4. I really don't remember. I thought to myself, I should've gotten the solenoid pack and had them all changed. Im no mechanic so I didn't know. So I've been driving with the transmission "safe" mode all this time. I know I'm slowly killing my tranny, but I tell myself, "hell there's people driving with no reverse and I'm going to drive this van until the wheels fall off.".

Well this weekend I'm replacing both CV axles on my van because my wheels may actually fall off lol. I don't know what my plan will be regarding the stupid tranny. I just wanted to reach out and say hello and update you on this van of mine. Have a good day.

Thanks for checking back and letting us know. I personally have a transmission apart at home now. They can be painful to diagnose properly. Axles are not fun to replace either, be careful.
