2000 LS2 A/C Clutch Removal
With all the troubleshooting I've done on the A/C system, I found out the clutch has went out.
Has anyone on here, put a clutch on the 3.0L "WITHOUT" removing the compressor from the car? I really don't want to have to remove it, cause I don't want to lose the charge it has. :( |
I don't know about the Saturns, Tooter, but back in the old days of working at Autozone, most GM products a/c clutches were threaded inside the pulley and you could actually get a clutch remover tool from the loan-a-tool program. But, that was a LONG time ago and much has changed since then. One of the other members here may be able to tell you.

never touched an L car but i doubt there is enough room (clearance) to attach the pulley puller tool onto the compressor with it still in the car.
But don't quote me on that |
how's that for two generally contradictory posts crossing in cyberspace ??

Nine minutes apart, derf. Go to sleep! LOL
|
nine minutes because you type too slow and your most often used key is backspace :)
|
From the looks of it, I'll have to remove the compressor......
|
Its a PITA to get a pulley puller under the hood of any Saturn
|
Maybe you'll luck out and be able to just remove the compressor from the bracket and have enough flex in the hoses to change the clutch out on the car. And derf, if you weren't looking at porn so much, you'd be quicker on the keyboard instead of on the trigger! LMAO
|
Derf doesn't watch porn online silly. He still has it on VHS
|
harsh.
I don't need porn. Everything I need is in 3D, on the couch, taking a nap. Go back to your Betamax and PBR. Rea said there's also some Boone's Farm in the shed near the bench were you sit to huff paint |
LMAO. I'm kicking Re out for revealing all of my secrets. That bitch!

I replaced a clutch on my daughter's 3.8 Mercury Sable by unbolting the compressor and moving it around. There is not much room under that hood either.

I can see it pretty good when looking through the wheel well at it but, still looks a little tight for tools. |
I replaced the compressor today. :):(
That area is really tight, especially when the lines wont allow you to really do anything without removing them.. |
I need to replace my compressor also. Looks like there will be lots of room if I remove the front head pipe back to the flange. How did you access yours?

I was able to get to the line on the back of the compressor from the top with a long extension and a u-joint. |
Thanks, I'll try that first. I do have a hoist so I can get it in the air.
