Hello all,

The rubber neck that the oil cap twists into on the top of the cylinder head doesn't seem to be sealed tightly to the head. I've been searching but can't find a replacement part or a way to perhaps reuse the existing part but get it to seal.

The part appears to be rubber based and somehow attaches to the cylinder head.

Any ideas out there?

Item #002 I believe is what you seek.

Heading indicates it is identical for the 2.2 L61 and the 2.0 LSJ (redline) engine. I assume they must share cylinder head covers

 

The 2.2 Ecotec has an aluminum cover and a plastic oil cap with an o-ring. The o-ring is available at any GM dealer, an aftermarket oil cap at any parts store.

Having just woken up from an unintended nap, I reread your original post and clear as day realized we were not answering your question/addressing the concern.

The piece you seek is not listed as a separate item in the GM parts catalog.
So you either get it to seal, or I'm afraid you will need to find a compatible valve cover gasket based on the years listed at the top of the page of the link I posted. Obviously, if you pried one out at a junkyard, you could figure out (maybe) how it was adhered in the first place. My guess would be a very high temp thermoset adhesive that can take the heat cycling. But once it comes loose (or you pry it out at the junkyard), you need that adhesive or it will not stay in place.

There's a chance you could go to a GM dealer and ask if this is a common problem with the ecotecs and if they have any adhesive that fits the bill. That's actually more of a tech question but they may know. In any event, you of course do not want the wrong stuff on there and have it heat up and run down into the cylinder head..........

Had some Permentex Ultra black that I use on my motorcycle and I manually applied. We'll see how it holds up.
