Default First Car

So long story short, my manager gave me his old car, 05 Saturn ion (not sure which level), the keys got stuck in the ignition and drained the battery. I now can’t open the trunk or fold down the back seats to get to the trunk and switch the battery. This is my first car I don’t really know what I’m doing but I’d appreciate any advice

Go to a Chevrolet dealer with the registration card from your vehicle. If it is you, cool. If you are not the registered owner, bring them with you

Ask for one key to be cut from the VIN. You will have a new key that exactly matches the locks on your vehicle unless someone has changed one or more of them. You'd know if one was different but not if all.

Not sure if that year has a resistor in the key or a transponder. I think it is a resistor. So the key will cost a bit more than your average simple copy.

As for getting the key out of the ignition, please search the site as there are multiple posts on how to remove the ignition cylinder.

Does anyone know if you can have an ignition cylinder re-keyed to match an existing key? Performed by a locksmith or someone at the dealer? Since he is ignition is more or less hosed, he needs original key to be able to change the battery but the replacement ignition will have a different key.

You’re missing an easy solution. Open the hood from the passenger compartment, hook up another car to the jump terminals under the hood. This will energize the car and allow you to remove the key and open the trunk. From there you can replace the battery (or maybe just start the car, go for a drive, and have the alternator charge it)

Can always pop the little square under the steering wheel off, and press the button in there to release the key. Then get the recall done.

Doesn't it have to be in ACC position to work?
