Well, the mechanic fixed the timing guide bolt. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. However the car is still making a rattling noise. The mechanic said that I basically need a rebuilt or replace engine and now thinks it’s the internal bearings inside the engine that’s the cause.

Default Rattling Sound 2003 Saturn Ion

The attached video is the sound my engine is making. Any thoughts on what/where the sound is coming from? The car had a broken timing guide bolt which the mechanic fixed but the sound is still there.

Rebuild will cost more than a junk yard engine. You can still buy new crate engines. Or maybe remans. Can't remember what I found the other day.
rebuild if you wanna get crazy and build it.
Junk yard engine if you wanna be cheap. But have them do the timing chain.
Reman/new if you have the cash

And stop creating multiple threads about the same problem. I've deleted one and merged the second. You don't get a third.

Have a nice day.

If the sound is from the chain end, it is the chain still. If the noise is in the middle, it has cam and lifter problems. It sounds like it is time for a different engine since you are not a mechanic.
